Implementing Art for our Community
Supporting Public Art and Placemaking
Arts Los Altos is dedicated to implementing public art that elevates the cultural identity of Los Altos. We have the unique ability to work directly with artists, the downtown business community and property owners to achieve vibrant, curated public art on private property.
Public art represents innovation and sustainability, reflects nature, honors history, inspires imagination, provides moments of reflection and educates the community from local lore to global information. It promotes economic prosperity by creating an artistic and cultural destination. Color and movement can be part of the public art, enhancing public spaces and defining a sense of place.
Community Mural Event
New mural turns a drab wall into a colorful and creative work of public art
Arts Los Altos organized a Community Mural Event which included a sold-out 100-person workshop where community members learned the history of street art and spray paint techniques. Together, they completed a new Los Altos showpiece on the side of Reitmeir’s Werkstatt just off of First Street. San Francisco artist Cameron Moberg was commissioned by Arts Los Altos to create an overall design and manage the workshops through his organization, “Talking Walls”. A continuous gallery of spectators were present to observe the painters, enjoy the festive atmosphere, and watch as the beautiful artwork unfolded before their eyes.
