Coming Soon - New Public Art Work at 200 Main & Third Street!

A new, large-scale mural, 200 Main Street (an inventory of time and place), is coming to downtown Los Altos in early 2021. This project is generously funded by The Rotary Club of Los Altos.

This outdoor mural incorporates quintessentially Los Altos themes and iconography to show our community’s pride and historic role at the crossroads of our area’s transformation from the agricultural Valley of Heart’s Delight to Silicon Valley.

The 30-foot mural is a rich montage of historic local historical images — in collaboration with the Los Altos History Museum — offering a rich tapestry of visual treasures for exploration and discovery by all ages and photo ops for social media posting. Located on the exterior wall facing Third Street of Satura Cakes located at 200 Main St, the mural invites viewers to seek iconic images in its details and put themselves in the scene with multiple Instagrammable photo ops.

200 Main Street (an inventory of time and place) was conceived by local artist, Martha Sakellariou, a visual artist who employs

interdisciplinary, collaborative and public engagement practices to create site-specific multimedia installations that include visual interventions, performances and actions. She is interested in the way individuals and communities respond to experiences associated with urban and suburban spaces and she engages concepts that embrace both social and aesthetic value.

Since 2018 Martha has been part of the City of Palo Alto CASP residency program and holds an art studio at Cubberley in Palo Alto. During the pandemic of 2020, she executed a series of murals on residential garage doors, opening up new spaces in our imaginations during a time in stay-at-home quarantine. See them here: Link.

Martha holds a Master’s in Fine Art from the Royal College of Art in London UK and her BFA/MA in from the National Athens School of Fine Art, Greece. She was born in Athens Greece, lived and worked in London UK before moving to California in 2013.
