New Artwork Captures Ideas of Home in Los Altos

Recently, dozens of Los Altans and art lovers gathered at an Arts Los Altos opening event to check out a new large-scale mural: 200 Main Street [an inventory of time and place], by Martha Sakellariou. This 30-foot-long photo composite is located on the large exterior wall of Satura Patisserie along Third Street. Arts Los Altos, a new public art-focused nonprofit, is grateful to the Rotary Club of Los Altos, who sponsored the mural with a Legacy Grant. Many citizens and Los Altos Rotarians attended this lively outdoor social event—one of the first since widespread vaccination reduced the risks of such outdoor gatherings—and happily posed and took photos with friends, fellow Rotarians and Martha, the artist, who also brought her family and several friends from Palo Alto.

The artist, Martha Sakellariou, had worked with the community to gather the items and carefully choose those to photograph for inclusion in her photo composite montage of images of “home” in Los Altos. The mural contains a rich tapestry of details: scenery, images and objects that represent multiple facets of home life in Los Altos over the past 100+ years.

If you missed the event, be sure to visit the site to explore all the details and take advantage of social media “photo ops” that allow you to place yourself in the scene. For the curious, featured items are explained in an annotated key, available HERE.
